Three Proven Ways to Build Your Network Marketing Business Using Social Media

Is it possible to skip home parties, avoid approaching your family members and friends with your product and build your network marketing business using Social Media ?

I say yes… and no…. But let me explain…

I was scrolling through my NewsFeed on Facebook the other day I realised how many people I’m connected with that are now involved in some sort of home business.

It’s fantastic to know that I am connected with loads of people just like me, who believe in an industry that’s allowing them to build a part or full time income. People that are on my wave length.


That doesn’t mean that all of us know how to market effectively using Social Media. I’d actually say that most don’t.

You see there are a lot of people out there using some pretty spammy and questionable tactics.

Just the other day I was added to 4 selling groups without my permission and tagged along with 46 other people in someone else’s business post.

I often receive friend requests from people who instantly send me a link to their business opportunity without even trying to get to know me first!!!

Has this ever happened to you? How did it make you feel?  It kind of upset me that people were sending me information I didn’t even ask for.

Now don’t get me wrong, some people would rightly get angry or annoyed to the point of instantly unfriending those that use these tactics, but for the most part…it makes me smile just a little bit at how unprofessional they are…But they call themselves business people.

You want to know why I can’t get angry?.,

Because I made some seriously bad mistakes when I first started out in Network Marketing, especially on Facebook.

I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this but when I first started out in Network Marketing I was a horrible Marketer and my “marketing” strategy basically consisted of:

  • Blasting my business and products all over social media (which I now know really just had people running a mile)
  • I posted in Facebook groups constantly, I even had an auto-poster that posted in up to 150 groups a day for me.
  • I had a group that I added people to without asking permission (shocking behaviour and I cringe now thinking about it)

So you see, YES I was a spammer and guess what? It got me very few results.

In my defense I didn’t know any different, I knew nothing about marketing, I just thought I did.

I copied what others were doing and the same can be said for many Network Marketers out there so I can’t get angry at others that still use these methods.

Does that mean we are ‘bad’ for doing these things?


We all make mistakes when we first start out. We are all taught how to network like pros but very few leaders teach the art of marketing a business on-line.

It took me 2 years to realize that what I was doing quite simply WASN’T WORKING. I was marketing like a desperate women and everyone else out there saw it too.

I knew something had to change I was at a point in my business where I was about to quit… I felt like totally throwing away 2 years of hard work because although I was getting results they weren’t coming fast enough to keep real momentum in my business.

So instead of continuing to go down that windy road of desperate tactics, that yielded little to no results, I decided it was high time to really educate myself on the art of marketing on social media.

I had seen many top leaders growing huge teams globally and I knew…

Tthey were all doing something I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT.

So I started watching, learning and researching.

Then one friend in particular shared some training with me called The Attraction Marketing Formula

I devoured it and I started implementing everything I was learning and what do you know?

I actually started getting results Big Results!

There’s so much I could share with you, all of which can’t possibly be done in this one blog post but I will be sharing much of what I learnt with those who subscribe to my FREE BootCamp.

BUT WAIT! I haven’t forgotten that I promised you –

3 Proven Simple Ways to Effectively Market a Home Business Using Social Media. 

So here they are. I’ve used all 3 methods – some longer than others – and all produced more leads and more sales than I ever got using spammy tactics. The last one is by far my favourite, but here are all 3.

Strategy #1: Social Media Prospecting


This strategy is an approach which will seem pretty familiar, because it’s prospecting as we’ve always done it, just with an on-line twist.

Now prospecting on social media is NOT “Internet marketing,” however it still beats networking events, coffee mornings and using the 3 feet rule.

Here is how to successfully use this method.

1) SEARCH – Use Facebook Search to find ‘friends of friends’ who live locally (at least to start with).

There are a few reasons for doing it this way…

First of all, Facebook allows you to directly message ‘friends of friends’ so that your message goes into their main inbox, instead of the “Other” inbox, which most people don’t even know exists.

Secondly, you start with local, because it will allow you to eventually meet face to face with them to form a more powerful personal connection. Given that you have no prior relationship, it’s important to meet.

2) QUALIFY – Next, you take a minute to look at their profile and identify key interests that might resonate with you personally, your business or your products. You are also looking for more subtle things, like are they smiling in their pictures? Are they outgoing? Do they seem to be a positive person?

Bear in mind, you are prospecting, but you are also qualifying them.

For example, an interest in Robert Kiyosaki might indicate an interest in entrepreneurship or diversified income streams. An interest in CrossFit indicates an interest in health and wellness and that might resonate with your company’s products.

3) MESSAGE – Then you craft your first message to them, which believe it or not, follows a somewhat standard prospecting approach.

You can come up with a template, but each message will be tailored to them specifically. This message will mention friends you have in common. You mention that you’re a recruiter for a “health & wellness company” or whatever the niche is, you’re “expanding in the area” and you ask if they are “open to earning extra money?”

You DO NOT want to be posting copy/paste messages with links to sign up for your opportunity. Not only is that not effective, it’s considered SPAM by Facebook and can get your account shut down and get your company in trouble too.

In this initial message, you aren’t giving them any info or links. You are simply trying to get them to express an interest.

4) BOOK – When they come back to you book a face to face meeting if local, or at the very least get them on the phone. You just let them know that details are better explained in person and, “if we were to work together, it’s a good opportunity to see if we would like each other! ;-)”

At this point, when they meet with you, your company or up-line will have defined a solid process for you to follow here.

I’ve had success with this method, I found it much less “fake” than contacting all my old school friends with the sole purpose to invite them into my business. Prospecting with this method was easier for me as I had no attachment to these people. However I no longer use this method, it’s time consuming and I now prefer a more targeted approach.

Strategy #2: “Show Me The Money” 

This procmoney trapess is pretty simple and depending on your personality, may or may not be great for you. This pretty much involves posting your results on social media and waiting for people to express an interest via the comments or private message.

This method is all about LIFESTYLE and involves posting pictures and announcements about your ‘rags to riches’ story, how much fun you are having and the impact your business has made on your lifestyle. Incentive trips, going to events, successful webinars you’ve been holding or attending. Fun days out you’ve spent your commissions on.

Some people go as far to post income results but be very wary of this as I could see you running into compliance or even legal problems.

This method has worked for me and attracted people to me, I live on a paradise island with constant sunshine, so that helps massively. It could annoy your friends and seem self promoting or hypey, but the way I see it is, if your friends aren’t happy seeing you succeed should they really be your friends?

If you don’t have an issue sharing your success and your happiness then this method can work well, because let’s face it, most people have a desire for more income and a better lifestyle and this is a really basic way to attract people to you and get them asking questions about your business. But don’t forget you are sharing your success and abilities as a leader NOT your business.

If you are implementing method #1 correctly and then adding method #2 to the mix you will find that people will start to come to you about your business and ask questions wanting to know what you are up to. Once they express an interest, you just follow whatever process you’ve been taught by your up-line for closing people.

But if “closing” people is not your thing, then here is my favorite strategy, which I’m currently employing in my business right now and it’s like prospecting on steroids! 

Strategy #3: ‘Attraction Marketing

Once I realised attractcustomersthat I needed to educate myself, I started to take note and learn from others who had already seen success with marketing their home businesses online.

I started to see a trend. They were all attracting people to their businesses without spamming their links and most of the time I didn’t even know what company they were involved with.

I discovered that these top leaders in our industry had created a truly passive way of making sure that when they woke up each morning…

  • They would have an inbox full of notifications, letting them know that there were new prospects, interested in learning more about their opportunity or product.
  • They would also have an inbox full of notifications of new CUSTOMERS waiting to receive their product and excited about the possibility it holds for them.
  • They would also have an inbox full of notifications of new DISTRIBUTORS ready to get signed up (or already signed up while they slept), waiting to be led in their new exciting venture.

Now that I use Attraction Marketing, I’ve actually stopped utilizing strategy #1 that I shared earlier and I use strategy #2 much less because I don’t need them anymore.

I am no longer filling my friend’s News Feeds and my wall with thinly veiled promotions for an opportunity or product because I am generating leads and closing sales on autopilot.

You’ll also be glad to know the only Facebook group I now have is a mastermind training group, a group for Elite Marketers that wish to also learn about Attraction Marketing.

What I am doing is creating a truly passive way of making sure that when I wake up each morning… I too have an inbox with notifications, letting me know that there are prospects interested in learning more about what I have to say. 

Just about every other type of business in the world is now using proven, passive online marketing & advertising methods.

So why NOT use these methods in YOUR network marketing or home business to give you more time in the day to do whatever it is that you love?
